About
Lisa G. Moore
Bio
Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, her rooted heritage spans back to the Propino/Proctor family in the nation's oldest city St. Augustine, Florida and the Gullah Geeche of South Carolina.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University as well as a Master in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida. She became an elementary teacher, where she developed a true love of history and storytelling. Naturally, she was drawn to the art of quilting, as it is the oldest tradition of storytelling.
For Lisa, quilting equals history. This creative process has given her the opportunity to speak about our collective cultural experiences from a political and historical perspective. The quilts are a tangible portrayal of the ancestor that keeps telling their story. It is her hope that the quilts she creates will be passed down from generation to generation while serving as a visual representation of our gathered experience.
Her quilts are made from a variety of materials, fabric and fiber. The vast majority of the fabric she uses are hand dyed. Other materials are found or recycled clothing, buttons and notions. All are combined to tell a story.
Currently, she is a 2025 - 2026 Studio Artist at the Art & History Museums Maitland in Maitland, Florida.
