Lisa G. Moore
Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, her rooted heritage spans back to the Propino/Proctor family in the nation's oldest city St. Augustine, Florida and the Gullah Geeche of South Carolina.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University as well as a Master in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida. She became an elementary teacher, where she developed a true love of history and storytelling. Naturally, she was drawn to the art of quilting, as it is the oldest tradition of storytelling.
Rooted in her Gullah Geechee ancestry and family lineage in St. Augustine, Florida, she is a heritage quilter who transforms repurposed textiles and objects into works that preserve memory, culture, and legacy. Her quilts honor the hands that built, labored, and nurtured everyday life while exploring themes of home, migration, and belonging.
Each piece is composed of recycled garments and found materials—objects that might otherwise be discarded—reimagined into works that carry memory, resilience, and meaning. Her work traces the places her ancestors inhabited, from waterways and homesteads to historic towns, grounding each work in lived experience, cultural continuity, and ancestral geographies.
Currently, she is a 2025–2026 Studio Artist at the Art & History Museums of Maitland in Maitland, Florida, a National Historic Landmark in Central Florida known for its rich artistic and cultural legacy.
