Zora Neale Hurston Summit
2025
Harlem, New York
The inaugural Zora Neale Hurston Summit, held at Barnard College on January 31–February 1, 2025, was a landmark event celebrating the life and legacy of Zora Neale Hurston, the first Black student to graduate from Barnard in 1928. Organized by the Zora Neale Hurston Trust in collaboration with Barnard’s Africana Studies Department, the summit brought together over 70 multidisciplinary speakers, including scholars, artists, and Hurston’s family members, to honor her contributions to literature, anthropology, and the arts.
As a panelist artist, my participation contributed to the vibrant discussions and creative expressions that underscored Hurston’s enduring impact. The summit not only celebrated her legacy but also fostered a sense of community among attendees, reinforcing the idea that Hurston’s spirit continues to inspire and connect individuals across generations.
